A reactive distillation process for the production of xylenes by contacting toluene with a methylating agent and in the presence of a toluene methylation catalyst. The reactive distillation process is preferably carried out in a reaction/distillation column under conditions which include a temperature no greater than about 320 ~C. Enhanced amounts of paraxylene can be produced by the reactive distillation process.
La présente invention concerne un procédé de production de xylènes par distillation réactive qui consiste à mettre en contact du toluène avec un agent de méthylation en présence d'un catalyseur de méthylation du toluène. Le procédé de distillation réactive est avantageusement mis en oeuvre dans une colonne de réaction/distillation dans des conditions où la température ne dépasse pas 320 ·C. Le procédé de distillation réactive permet de produire des quantités accrues de paraxylène.
