A real-time machine tool signalling apparatus for use with a digitally controllable machine having a movable machine tool comprises a digital controller and software executable on the digital controller for selectively controlling the movement of the movable machine tool. There is also software executable on the digitally controllable machine for determining the position of the movable machine tool. A signalling system is mountable adjacent the digitally controllable machine and having a signalling system operable by a switch, for signalling the interaction of the movable machine tool with the switch. There is also software executable on the digitally controllable machine for moving the movable machine tool to a pre-determined interaction position whereat the movable machine tool interacts with the switch, as aforesaid, and for subsequently removing the movable machine tool from the interaction with the switch.
