In a modulation and demodulation system for exchanging data between a terminal unit and a communication network, when the terminal unit is not connected, in response to data reception from the communication network, the reception data is temporarily stored in a memory. When the terminal unit is connected, the data is read out from the memory to transfer to the terminal unit. By this, even when the terminal unit is not connected to the data modulation and demodulation system, disposal of the reception data is not required. On the other hand, upon storage of the reception data to the memory, by storing the data compression, reduction of the memory capacity becomes possible.

Dans un système de modulation-démodulation assurant l'échange de données entre un terminal et un réseau de transmission, lorsque le terminal non branché reçoit des données du réseau de transmission, celles-ci sont temporairement stockées dans une mémoire. Lorsque le terminal est branché, les données sont lues dans ladite mémoire pour être transférées au terminal. Ainsi, les données reçues n'ont pas à être éliminées même lorsque le terminal n'est pas branché au système de modulation-démodulation. En fait, à l'arrivée des données au niveau de la mémoire, le stockage des données comprimées permet d'économiser la mémoire.
