A method for producing in culture phenylalanine dehydrogenase at yields of 50+ units of enzyme per litre of culture, one unit measured as the amount required to convert one micro-mole of phenylalanine to phenylpyruvic acid at 25 °C and pH 10.8, in a growth medium comprising a nitrogen source, a buffer, phenylalanine or phenylpyruvic acid or a salt thereof at 20 mM and optionally, a vitamin solution. Using phenylalanine at about 100 mM gives yields of phenylalanine dehydrogenase enzyme of 350+ units per litre of culture.

Procédé servant à produire en culture une phénylalanine-déshydrogénase selon des rendements d'au moins de 50 unités d'enzyme par litre de culture, une unité étant mesurée en tant que quantité nécessaire à la conversion d'une micro-mole de phénylalanine en acide pyruvique de phényle à 25 ~C et à un pH de 10,8 dans un milieu de culture composé d'une source d'azote, d'un tampon, de phénylalanine ou d'acide pyruvique de phényle ou d'un de ses sels à 20 mM et, éventuellement, d'une solution vitaminée. L'utilisation de phénylalanine à 100 mM environ permet de produire la phénylalanine-déshydrogénase à raison d'au moins 350 unités par litre de culture.
