ABSTRACT A protective sleeve which includes an axially extending main portion having a first end closed and a second open end including an annular flange. The internal profile of the sleeve is selected to provide close conformity lo the external profile of the spindle. The sleeve is constructed from a thermosettable vinyl and may be remelted and remolded if any damage occurs to the sleeve during its life and/or at the end of its life. Additionally, the closed end portion of the sleeve includes an aperture which provides a vent to any air trapped between the sleeve and the spindle during installation, as well as, providing an opening to selectively apply compressed air to the region between the sleeve and the spindle such that radial expansion of the sleeve may facilitate axial displacement during the removal process. - i -
