The invention concerns a tyre for civil engineering machines comprising a radial carcass reinforcement (1) anchored in each bead to an annular bead-reinforcing element (2), and radially above a crown ply reinforcement (3) consisting of at least two working breaker strips (320, 321) of inextensible metallic cords cross-layed from one strip (320) to the next (321), said strips having widths not less than 50 % of the width L of the running tread (4) and, radially above of two protective breaker strips (330, 331) of so-called elastic metallic cords cross-layed from one strip (330) to the next (331), the running tread (4) comprising in its non-grooved part of thickness D at least an additional reinforcement (34) of reinforcing elements. The invention is characterised in that said additional reinforcement (4) consists of at least two layers (340, 341) of textile material monofilaments, mutually parallel in each layer, the axial lengths of said two layers (340, 341) being not less than the width of the narrower breaker strip (321).
