A gloss sensor for determining the gloss of a surface, for example, of moving paper (11) being produced by a paper making machine. The gloss sensor (10) normally is installed in a scanner which scans the moving paper in a crosswise direction. It includes a standard TAPPI light source (14) which impinges upon the paper (11) at a specified angle and the intensity of the detected reflected light is related to gloss. Calibration is provided by an oscillation angle light source which with the same lamp has a direct reference path to the detector (36). Compensation for tilting or shifting paper is provided by the same oscillating light source which when the paper tilts of shifts still allows a reflected light beam to reach the detector (36). Change of angle from the standard TAPPI angle due to parallel paper shifts is compensated.
L'invention porte sur un détecteur permettant d'évaluer le brillant d'une surface, par exemple de papier en mouvement (11) produit par une machine à papier. Le détecteur de brillant (10) est normalement monté dans un scanneur qui balaye le papier en mouvement dans le sens transversal. Il comporte une source lumineuse standard TAPPI (14) qui frappe le papier (11) selon un angle donné, l'intensité de la lumière réfléchie étant fonction du brillant. L'étalonnage est assuré par une source lumineuse angulaire oscillante qui, avec la même lampe présente une trajectoire de référence directe vers le détecteur (36). Les compensations du dénivellement ou des décalages sont fournies par la même source lumineuse oscillante, qui, lorsque le papier subit des dénivellements ou des décalages, peut encore permettre au faisceau de lumière réfléchie d'atteindre le détecteur (36). Les variations de l'angle à partir de l'angle TAPPI standard due aux décalages parallèles du papier sont compensées.
