INVENTORS JACK HERMANS AND FRED MOL TITLE AUTOMATIC LOADER WITH WIDTH SENSING COMPACTING ARMS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides a simple appa- ratus which senses the point at which appropriate comp- action is reached, irrespective of the width of the lo- ad, and is utilized specificaly for the purposes of as- sembling a number of articles into a unit load or for installation upon a pallet. Thus, there comprises, in part, a pair of arms movable between an open and com- pacted position. The arms are coupled to a motor or prime mover through a force limiting rod assembly. This assembly actuates the prime mover to control the compacting position of the compacting arms (threshold of compaction) while at the same time, in an alterna- tive embodiment of the invention, allowing the assem- blage of articles within the compacting region to be moved, either as a unit load, to a packaging mechanism or alternatively to a pallet.
