A method for improving the wettability of a medical device involves: (a) providing a medical device formed from a monomer mixture comprising a hydrophilic device-forming monomer including a copolymerizable group and an electron donating moiety, and a second device-forming monomer including a copolymerizable group and a reactive functional group; and (b) contacting a surface of the medical device with a wetting agent including a proton donating moiety reactive with the functional group provided by the second lens-forming monomer and that complexes with the electron donating moiety provided by the hydrophilic lens-forming monomer.

L'invention porte sur un procédé améliorant la mouillabilité d'un dispositif médical consistant: (a) à obtenir un dispositif médical composé d'un mélange de monomères c.-à-d. d'un monomère hydrophile structurel comportant un groupe copolymérisable et un fragment donneur d'électrons, et un deuxième monomère structurel comportant un groupe copolymérisable et un groupe fonctionnel réactif, et (b) à mettre la surface du dispositif médical en contact avec un agent mouillant comportant: un fragment donneur de protons réagissant avec le groupe fonctionnel du deuxième monomère structurel (constitutif de la lentille) et formant un complexe avec le fragment donneur d'électrons du monomère structurel hydrophile (constitutif de la lentille).
