An apparatus and process produces salts by an electrodialysis operation. The basic electrodialysis apparatus is a cell having a number of compartments separated by ion exchange membranes. A DC source is connected to drive a current through a feed stream passing through the cell which splits the salt stream into an acid and a base. The incoming feed may be nanofiltered to remove divalent metal. The base loop may be in communication with an ion exchange column packed with a material that removes multivalent cations. Monovalent selective cation membranes may be used to effect preferential treatment of the monovalent cations to the base loop. Depending upon the material being processed and the desired end result either or both the nanofiltration and the ion exchanged column may be used in the apparatus.
Il s'agit d'un appareil et d'un procédé pour l'électrodialyse des sels. L'appareil est essentiellement constitué d'une cellule renfermant un certain nombre de compartiments séparés par des membranes échangeuses d'ions. Une source de courant continu est utilisée pour créer un courant électrique dans le circuit d'alimentation en sels traversant la cellule, ce qui a pour résultat de scinder ces sels en un acide et une base. Le flux entrant peut être soumis à une nanofiltration qui élimine les métaux bivalents. Le circuit principal peut être relié à une colonne échangeuse d'ions remplie d'une matière qui retire les cations polyvalents. Des membranes sélectives peuvent être utilisées pour effectuer un traitement préférentiel des cations monovalents dans le circuit principal. Selon le matériel traité et le produit souhaité, on peut utiliser ou non le dispositif de nanofiltration et/ou la colonne échangeuse d'ions.
