A method of providing certificate issuance and revocation checks involving mobile devices in a mobile ad hoc network (MANET). The wireless devices communicate with each other via Bluetooth wireless technology in the MANET, with an access point (AP) to provide connectivity to the Internet. A Certificate authority (CA) distributes certificates and certification revocation lists (CRLs) to the devices via the access point (AP). Each group of devices has the name of the group associated with the certificate and signed by the CA. A device that is out of the radio range of the access point may still connect to the CA to validate a certificate or download the appropriate CRL by having all the devices participate in the MANET.

L'invention se rapporte à un procédé assurant la délivrance de certificats et de vérifications de révocations impliquant des dispositifs mobiles dans un réseau ad hoc mobile (MANET). Les dispositifs sans fil communiquent les uns avec les autres au moyen d'une technologie sans fil Bluetooth dans le réseau MANET, un point d'accès (AP) assurant la connectivité à l'Internet. Un organisme de certification (CA) distribue au dispositif des certificats et des listes de révocation de certifications (CRL) par l'intermédiaire du point d'accès (AP). Chacun des groupes de dispositifs possède le nom du groupe associé au certificat et signé par l'organisme de certification. Un dispositif qui se trouve hors de portée radio du point d'accès peut cependant se connecter à l'organisme de certification aux fins de la validation d'un certificat ou du téléchargement d'une liste CRL appropriée du fait que tous les dispositifs participent au réseau MANET.
