A surgical filament is provided herein which has a surface coated with at least one N-long chain monoacylated basic amino acid having an aliphatic acyl group of from 6 to 22 carbon atoms, either in admixture with a bio-absorbable polymer or without such bio-absorbable polymer. Such surgical filament has improved surface-slipping characteristics, e.g., the ability to be passed through tissue and having tie down properties.
