A method and apparatus for processing a time domain reflectometry (TDR) signal to generate an output result corresponding to a valid process variable. The method comprises processing the TDR signal using at least two different techniques for detecting a valid reflection pulse generated by the process variable to calculate an independent result using each of the two of the at least two techniques, applying a weighted factor to the independent results from each of the at least two different techniques to provide weighted output results, comparing the weighted output results and selecting the valid output result from the weighted output results based on the comparing step. The apparatus comprises a primary detector for detecting the reflection pulse generated by the process variable and calculating a primary output, a secondary detector for detecting the reflection pulse generated by the process variable and calculating at least one secondary output result, a comparator for comparing the primary result with the at least one secondary result to check the primary result and to select the valid output result based on the comparison. The present invention provides an apparatus and method for accurately providing information as to the location of an interface between a first medium and a second medium in a vessel.
L'invention est constituée par une méthode et un appareil de traitement de signaux de réflectométrie temporelle qui sont utilisés pour produire un résultat correspondant à un paramètre de traitement valide. La méthode de l'invention consiste à traiter les signaux de réflectométrie temporelle en utilisant au moins deux techniques différentes pour détecter une impulsion réfléchie valide produite par le paramètre de traitement afin de calculer un résultat indépendant, en appliquant un facteur de pondération aux résultats indépendants obtenus avec chacune des techniques différentes pour obtenir des résultats pondérés, en comparant ces résultats pondérés et en sélectionnant le résultat valide parmi ces résultats pondérés en se basant sur cette comparaison. L'appareil de l'invention comprend un détecteur primaire servant à détecter l'impulsion réfléchie produite par le paramètre de traitement et à calculer un résultat primaire, un détecteur secondaire servant à détecter l'impulsion réfléchie produite par le paramètre de traitement et à calculer au moins un résultat secondaire, et un comparateur servant à comparer ce résultat primaire avec l'un au moins de ces résultats secondaires pour vérifier ce résultat primaire et sélectionner le résultat valide en se basant sur cette comparaison. La présente invention offre un appareil et une méthode qui permettent d'obtenir des informations exactes sur la position d'une interface entre un premier et un second milieu dans un vaisseau.
