Low density collapsed absorbent foams materials that, upon contact with aqueous fluids, in particular urine, can expand and absorb these fluids. These low density foams typically have an expanded thickness from about 6 to about 10 times the thickness of the foams in their collapsed state. These low density foams are made by polymerizing high internal phase emulsions (HIPEs) where the volume to weight ratio of the water phase to the oil phase is in the range of from about 55:1 to about 100:1.

Matériaux constitués de mousses absorbantes non dilatées et de faible densité qui, au contact de liquides aqueux, en particulier d'urine, peuvent se dilater pour les absorber. Ces mousses de faible densité ont en moyenne une épaisseur dilatée d'à peu près 6 à 10 fois l'épaisseur de l'état initial. On fabrique ces mousses de faible densité en polymérisant des émulsions à phase interne élevée (HIPE) pour lesquelles le rapport du volume massique de la phase aqueuse au volume massique de la phase huileuse est compris entre 55:1 et 100:1.
