The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of aminotriazine derivatives of the formula I (see formula I) by the solvolysis of compounds of the formula II (see formula II) in the presence of gaseous hydrogen chloride in an alcoholic medium. The compounds of formula I are useful as intermediates in the manufacture of insecticides.
