Disclosed is a liquid crystal apparatus including a liquid crystal panel having a pair of electrodes and a liquid crystal exhibiting spontaneous polarization and arranged between the pair of electrodes, first means for applying a gradation voltage signal corresponding to gradation information to the pair of electrodes, and second means for applying, a DC component serving as a reverse bias of an internal electric field generated upon application of the gradation voltage signal, to the liquid crystal during one vertical scanning period.

L'invention est un appareil à cristaux liquides comportant un panneau à cristaux liquides ayant une paire d'électrodes et un cristal liquide à polarisation spontanée monté entre les électrodes de la paire, un premier dispositif servant à appliquer à la paire d'électrodes un signal de gradation correspondant à une information de gradation, et un second dispositif servant à appliquer au cristal liquide, durant une période de balayage vertical, une tension continue servant à polariser en inverse le champ électrique interne résultant de l'application du signal de gradation.
