A support for displaying a rectangular sign comprising: a first longitudinal rail; a second longitudinal rail being extendably connected to the first longitudinal rail by lateral rails and lateral extending elements, the extending elements cooperatively adjustable to change the lateral size of the support for accommodating signs of differing lateral dimensions; and a retainer on each of the longitudinal rails for fastening the sign. Each extending element includes a bolt adjustably mounted on a lateral rail and further mounted on the second longitudinal rail. Each retainer comprises an open-ended groove for securing a dowel disposed along each longitudinal side of the sign. In another embodiment, the retainer comprises a longitudinal notch defined by a first elongate jaw and an opposing second elongate jaw for engaging opposing sides of a portion of the sign.
