A process and system for the treatment of contaminated oil laden with particulate material requires the contaminated oil to be agitated thoroughly with a liquid such as water. Once this has been done, the mixture of contaminated oil and water is allowed to settle. During the settling process, particulate material in the mixture settles to the bottom while oil floats on top of the water. The oil is then skimmed off of the top of the water and held in a storage tank. The oil can then be shipped back to the supplier for use as feedstock in oil upgrading processes. The water is then removed and the remaining particulate material is washed yielding clean useable particulate material.
