A disposable needle head assembly (10) including a needle portion (20) having a protruding hypodermic needle (29) and a hub portion (22) adapted to be secured to a standard syringe body (100), and a cover portion (30), the cover portion (30) being sli- dingly disposed over the needle portion (20) and including an in- ternally extending nub which travels along a recessed track formed in an exterior of the hub of the needle portion (20), thereby guiding the axial movement of the cover portion (30) about the needle por- tion (20) and causing the cover portion (30) to be accordingly posi- tioned in a needle exposing position during use, and an extended needle, containing position in to which the cover portion (30) is en- gaged automatically after use of the hypodermic needle (29).
