The present invention concerns fibroblast growth factor 9 (FGF9) as a high affinity ligand for fibroblast growth factor receptor 3 (FGFR3) which ligand is capable of binding and activating FGFR3 in a specific manner. The present invention is also directed to methods for detection of FGFR3 by utilizing FGF9, as well as to pharmaceutical compositions for modulating the activity of FGFR3 comprising as an active ingredient FGF9, antagonists thereof or FGF binding agents which are capable of neutralizing native circulating FGF9. The present invention further concerns novel recombinant mouse and chicken FGF9, expression vectors comprising these recombinant FGF9s and a transgenic animal transformed with said expression vectors.

La présente invention concerne un facteur de croissance des fibroblastes 9 (FGF9) utilisé en qualité de ligand possédant une grande affinité envers un récepteur 3 du facteur de croissance des fibroblastes (FGFR3), lequel ligand est capable de se lier au FGFR3 et d'activer ce dernier de manière spécifique. La présente invention concerne également des procédés de détection de FGFR3, consistant à utiliser le FGF9, ainsi que des compositions pharmaceutiques qui permettent de moduler l'activité de FGFR3 et qui comprennent, en qualité d'agent actif, du FGF9, des antagonistes de ce dernier ou des agents de liaison de FGF capables de neutraliser le FGF9 natif en circulation. La présente invention concerne en outre de nouveaux FGF9 recombinants de souris et de poulet, des vecteurs d'expression contenant ces FGF9 recombinants, ainsi qu'un animal transgénique transformé à l'aide desdits vecteurs d'expression.
