The object of this invention is to reveal the biological mechanism by which the gene responsible for the expression of defense proteins is controlled, and to provide a protein deeply involved in that mechanism. Achievement of above object consists of providing a protein which binds to a ~B-like sequence of the gene for a defense protein, and which has a molecular weight of about 59 kDa, and a transcriptional regulatory factor comprising the protein, and of revealing biological processes practiced for the expression of the gene here concerned.
