The present invention provides a tool for reinforcing a medical needle having a recessed portion of relatively narrow diameter and main body portions of relatively larger diameter on either side of said recessed portion wherein the tool comprises a cylindrical body which is detachably attachable to said recessed portion of the medical needle. A medical instrument comprising a combination of the medical needle and reinforcing tool is also provided.
