A post system for signs, fences and other purposes includes an elongate X-profile post anchor that is driven directly into the ground using a matching driver. A hollow, vinyl post then slides over the anchor. For frozen or hard ground, a pilot tool is driven into the ground first to provide an initial opening into which the anchor can be placed.
