Multi-wavelength optically amplified systems require selected premphasis of channel powers to equalise signal to noise ratios at the receive terminal end. In the present invention, a channel control circuit for an optical wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) communications system (14) comprises an optical coupler (2) having an optical input, an optical output and an arm coupled to a wavelength multiplexer (5). The multiplexer (5) de-multiplexes an optical signal into a number of separate channels which are then each coupled to a respective optical attenuator (6n) which processes the individual channel and then returns them to the optical output via the multiplexer (5).

Les systèmes à amplification optique et longueurs d'ondes multiples nécessitent une préaccentuation des puissances de voies afin d'équilibrer les rapports signal-bruit à l'extrémité du terminal de réception. D'après l'invention, un circuit de contrôle de voies conçu pour un système de communications multiplexées par répartition en longueurs d'ondes optiques (14) (WDM) comprend un coupleur optique (2) possédant une entrée optique, une sortie optique et un bras couplé à un multiplexeur en longueurs d'ondes (5). Ce multiplexeur démultiplexe un signal optique en plusieurs voies séparées qui sont ensuite couplées chacune à un atténuateur optique respectif (6¿n?) qui traite la voie individuelle, puis renvoie les voies à la sortie optique par l'intermédiaire du multiplexeur (5).
