The present invention provides a method for enhancing service signals transmitted by a DCE, such as a Modem, to a DTE user. Since any transmission from a remote computer to a DTE user through a wireless communication network can be encoded with additional information, use of an AT compatible modem in conjunction with a wireless communication network adds a new dimension of information that can be displayed to the DTE user. The present invention also includes a method for ensuring effective data transfer from a DCE to a DTE user. When a DTE receives a connection service signal it will often require several internal adjustments before it can accept data. Because data received by a radio-based modem is received in packets, under certain conditions data will be waiting to be transmitted to the user immediately after the modem enters a data transfer state. The method of this invention includes the steps of transmitting a service signal to the DTE indicating that the modem has entered a data transfer state and delaying for a predetermined time after transmitting the data-transfer-state signal before transmitting data from the modem to the DTE.
L'invention porte sur une méthode d'amélioration de la transmission de signaux de service entre un ETD (équipement de transmission de données) tel qu'un modem et un utilisateur de ETTD (équipement terminal de traitement de données). Comme toute transmission par liaison sans fils entre un ordinateur éloigné et un ETTD peut être codée avec des informations additionnelles, l'utilisation d'un modem compatible AT en association avec un réseau de communications sans fil ajoute une dimension nouvelle aux informations susceptibles d'être présentées à l'utilisateur du ETTD. L'invention porte également sur une méthode efficace de transfert de données entre un ETD et un utilisateur de ETTD. Lorsqu'un ETTD reçoit un signal de service de connexion, il doit souvent demander de nombreux ajustements avant de pouvoir accepter les données. Comme les données reçues par un modem radio le sont par paquets, elles devront dans certains cas attendre d'être émises à destination de l'utilisateur après que le modem soit prêt à émettre. La méthode de cette invention consiste donc à transmettre au ETTD un signal de service lui indiquant que le modem est en état d'émettre et à retarder la transmission de données du modem vers le ETTD d'un temps prédéterminé après la transmission du signal d'état d'émettre entre le modem et le ETTD.
