A method for introducing a scavenger receptor gene into a mammal to make said mammal resistant to atherosclerosis; an artificial scavenger receptor minigene or partial minigene as well as the ectopic expression of a scavenger receptor in the liver of a mammal for the reduction of apo B containing lipoproteins, elevation of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and prevention of atherosclerosis; and a method of treating atherosclerosis, hyperbetalipoproteinemia (i.e., high-levels of apolipoprotein (apo) B containing lipoproteins), hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia; hypoalphalipoproteinemia (i.e., low levels of high-density lipoprotein), vascular complications of diabetes, transplant, atherectomy, and angioplastic restenosis in a patient with a therapeutically effective amount of a scavenger receptor gene alone or combined with a ACAT inhibitor, a HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, a bile acid sequenstrant, or lipid regulator, and pharmaceutical delivery methods which include these agents.
Procédé d'introduction d'un gène de récepteur piégeur chez un mammifère, afin de le rendre résistant à l'athérosclérose; minigène artificiel ou minigène partiel de récepteur piégeur; et expression ectopique d'un récepteur piégeur dans le foie d'un mammifère, afin de diminuer le taux des lipoprotéines contenant apo B, d'élever le cholestérol à lipoprotéines à densité élevée et de prévenir l'athérosclérose; procédé de traitement de l'athérosclérose, de l'hyperbêtalipoprotéinémie (c'est-à-dire des niveaux élevés de lipoprotéines contenant des apolipoprotéines (apo) B), de l'hypercholestérolémie, de l'hypertriglycéridémie, de l'hypoalphalipoprotéinémie (c'est-à-dire des niveaux élevés de lipoprotéines à densité élevée), de complications vasculaires du diabète, des greffes, de l'athérectomie et de la resténose due à l'angioplastie transluminale chez un patient au moyen d'une quantité thérapeutiquement efficace d'un gène d'un récepteur piégeur, seul ou combiné à un inhibiteur de ACAT, à un inhibiteur de réductase de HMG-CoA, à un séquestrant d'acide biliaire ou à un régulateur de lipides; procédés d'administration pharmaceutique contenant lesdits agents.
