A textile material is described which provides thermal image masking or suppression in the mid and far infrared region without co mpromising the effectiveness of visual and near IR camouflage or comfort level, or the effectiveness, and mobility of a person. This is achieved by incorporating a metallized microporous membrane into a typical article of clothing or covering, e.g. tents, which suppresses thermal imaging. Specifically the invention is directed to an air permeable, moisture vapor transmissive, waterproof, heat reflecting material consisting essentially of at least one metallized microporous membrane (20) laminated to at least one other layer or textile backing material (22) such as woven, nonwoven or knitted nylon, polyester, cotton, silk, etc. or additional microporous layers, in which the metal in the metallized membrane forms a discontinuous layer (21) on the surface and on the pore walls adjacent the surface of the microporous membrane.
L'invention se rapporte à une matière textile qui permet d'obtenir le masquage ou la suppression d'une image thermique dans la région de l'infrarouge moyen et lointain sans que cela nuise à l'efficacité du camouflage visuel et à infrarouge proche ou à son niveau de confort, ou à la mobilité d'une personne. Pour ce faire, on incorpore une membrane microporeuse métallisée dans un vêtement ou revêtement caractéristique, tel que des tentes, ce qui supprime l'image thermique. L'invention se rapporte en particulier à un matériau réfléchissant la chaleur, étanche à l'eau, permettant l'échange de vapeur d'eau, perméable à l'air, qui se compose essentiellement d'au moins une membrane microporeuse métallisée (20) stratifiée sur au moins une autre couche ou matière textile de renforcement (22) telle que le nylon tissé, non tissé ou maillé, le polyester, le coton, la soie, etc. ou des couches microporeuses supplémentaires, le métal de la membrane métallisée formant une couche discontinue (21) sur la surface de la membrane microporeuse et sur les parois poreuses adjacentes à cette surface.
