A process for producing a cleaved product from castor oil, or derrivatives thereof, by high temperature caustic oxidation reaction accomplished by combining at least one chemically inert diluent, a catalyst, and an alkali in aqueous solution to form a first mixture wherein the diluent is present in an amount sufficient to reduce foaming and solidification of the mixture while increasing the yield and improving the purity and adding a ricinic compound to the first mixture to form a second mixture. The temperature of the second mixture is raised to a level sufficient to conduct pyrolysis, and the cleaved product produced thereby is recovered by adding an acid to the reaction mixture in an amount sufficient to acidify the reaction mixture down below a pH of about 6. The invention further relates to the reaction mixture used to produce the cleaved products. The present invention provides higher product yields and purer cleaved products produced by the oxidation of castor oil or its derivatives than conventionally obtained.
L'invention porte sur un procédé de production d'un produit de scission d'huile de ricin ou de ses dérivés par une réaction d'oxydation caustique à haute température consistant à combiner au moins un diluant chimiquement inerte, un catalyseur, et un alcali en solution aqueuse de manière à former un premier mélange où le diluant est présent en quantité suffisante pour réduire le moussage et la solidification du mélange tout en accroissant le rendement et en améliorant la pureté, puis en ajoutant au premier mélange un composé de ricin de manière à former un deuxième mélange. La température du deuxième mélange est portée à un niveau suffisant pour entraîner sa pyrolyse, et les produits de scission ainsi formés sont récupérés par adjonction au mélange réactif d'un acide en quantité suffisante pour acidifier le mélange réactif jusqu'à un pH de moins de 6 environ. L'invention, qui porte également sur les mélanges réactifs d'obtention des produits de scission, donne des rendements plus élevés et des produits de scission plus purs par oxydation d'huile de ricin ou de ses dérivés, qu'avec les méthodes usuelles.
