A method for reducing radar cross section of an object that has conductive portions and that is expected to be scanned by radar, which includes providing the object with a multiple layer radar cross section reducing structure that reduces or entraps or dissipates radar waves therein so that the size or configuration of the object cannot be correctly detected by radar scanning. The invention also relates to the radar cross section reducing structure alone or associated with an object such as an aircraft, vessel, structure or vehicle that may enclose or transport personnel or equipment . The structure can be provided on an object that previously has no stealth capability or it can be applied to an object that already has stealth capability for the purpose of increasing capability or providing agility in order to prevent detection by threat or other radar systems. The incident radar waves are trapped and channelized towards an appropriate outlet, like an antenna.
La présente invention concerne un procédé permettant de réduire la section efficace en radar d'un objet qui comporte des parties conductrices et qui sera soumis à un balayage radar. Ce procédé consiste à doter l'objet d'une structure multicouche réduisant la section efficace en radar qui réduit ou piège ou encore dissipe les ondes radar de sorte que la taille ou la configuration de l'objet ne puisse être correctement détectée par un balayage radar. Cette invention porte également sur une structure de réduction de la section efficace en radar, seule ou associée à un objet tel qu'un aéronef, un bâtiment, une structure ou un véhicule qui peut contenir ou transporter des personnes ou du matériel. La structure peut être utilisée sur un objet qui, auparavant, ne présentait pas de capacité de furtivité ou bien elle peut être appliquée sur un objet qui possède déjà une capacité de furtivité, en vue d'accroître sa capacité de furtivité ou de lui conférer une propriété d'agilité afin qu'il ne puisse être détecté par un radar ennemi ou par d'autres systèmes radar. Les ondes radar incidentes sont piégées et canalisées vers une sortie appropriée telle qu'une antenne.
