ABSTRACT This invention relates to an automatic instrument for purse-string sutures, for surgical use, including two jaws (1, 2) carrying teeth, provided with openings (9, 10) having a side slot (11) for through passage of needles (12, 13) holding the ends of a suture thread (14) fastened thereto. Said jaws (1, 2) are integral with a pair of supports (3, 4) adapted to be opened in order to introduce between said jaws the anatomical tissue (29) to be sutured. Support (4) carries a small gauge tube (15) having one end wrapped around a drum (5) which can be operated by means of a knob (6), whereas the opposite end is connected to needles (12, 13) where- by through a rotation of knob (6) small gauge tube (15), which operates as a pusher member, unwinds of drum (5) and pushes needles (12, 13) along openings (9, 10) on jaws (1, 2) until the tips of needles (12, 13) project from free ends (23) of jaws (1, 2).
