A novel gene 158P3D2 and its encoded protein, and variants thereof, are described wherein 158P3D2 exhibits tissue specific expression in normal adult tissue, and is aberrantly expressed in the cancers listed in Table 1. Consequently, 158P3D2 provides a diagnostic, prognostic, prophylactic and/or therapeutic target for cancer. The 158P3D2 gene or fragment thereof, or its encoded protein, or variants thereof, or a fragment thereof, can be used to elicit a humoral or cellular immune response; antibodies or T cells reactive with 158P3D2 can be used in active or passive immunization.

La présente invention a pour objet un nouveau gène designé par 158P3D2 et la protéine pour laquelle il code, ainsi que des variantes dudit gène. 158P3D2 présente une expression sensible à la nature du tissu dans lequel la cellule est présente, dans le cas de tissus adultes sains. Il est exprimé de façon anormale dans le cas des cancers listés dans le Tableau 1. Ainsi, 158P3D2 permet d~obtenir un diagnostic, un pronostic, et une cible prophylactique et/ou thérapeutique contre le cancer. Le gène 158P3D2 ou un fragment de ce dernier, ou la protéine pour laquelle il code, ou des variantes de ladite protéine, ou un fragment de ladite protéine, peuvent être employés pour induire une réponse immunitaire humorale ou cellulaire. Des anticorps ou des cellules T sensibilisées à 158P3D2 peuvent être employés dans le cadre d'une immunisation active ou passive.
