The invention relates to benzyl uracils of formula (I) wherein R1 represents H, halogen, CH3; R2 and R3 represent H, CN, SCN, halogen, C1-C4-halogen alkyl, C1-C4-halogen alkoxy, C1-C4-halogen alkylthio; R4 represents R3 + C1-C4-alkyl, C1-C4-alkoxy, C1-C6-alkyl-NH-CO-; R5 represents C1-C4 alkyls bonded via O or S at position .alpha. or .beta., carrying a group -C(=NOR7)-R8, R7 having the same meaning as R20 and R8 representing H, C1-C3-alkyl, optionally substituted CHO, COOH, COSH or amino carbonyl; and R6 in position .alpha. or .beta., and their salts. The invention also relates to a method for producing the benzyl uracils and to their use as herbicides and/or for desiccating/defoliating plants.
