A nozzle for an injection molding machine is provided. The nozzle includes a nozzle body and a heater. The nozzle body has a longitudinal axis and defines a melt channel that extends generally in an axial direction. The heater is thermally connected to the nozzle body for heating melt in the melt channel. The heater extends in the axial direction. The nozzle body is adapted to contact at least one injection molding machine component having a temperature that is lower than the temperature of the nozzle body during use. The nozzle body has a wall thickness between the heater and the melt channel. The wall thickness varies in the axial direction along the nozzle body so that melt flowing through the melt channel has a selected temperature profile.
