Abstract of the Disclosure A device (1) for reinforcing a door frame in a doorway is comprised of a back section (5) having a first end (10) and a second end (11), a support flange (2) joined to the first of the back section and extending generally perpendicular to the back section, an interior section (4) having a first end (12) and a second end (13), joined at the first end to the second end of the back section and extending generally parallel to and in the opposite direction of the support flange, and a jamb flange (3) joined to the second end of the interior section and extending substantially parallel to the back section and generally in the direction of the first end of the back section. The device is installed in a door frame with the support flange secured to the exterior side (25) of a support member (2), the back section abutting the back side (33) of a door jamb (30), the interior section abutting the interior side (32) of the door jamb, and the jamb flange secured to the doorway side (34) of the door jamb, such that opening forces on a door are transferred from the device to the support member and away from the door jamb, and splitting of the door jamb is minimized. The jamb flange may also extend across a receiving recess (36) of the door jamb and have an aperture (6) defined therein, such that a strike plate (44) may be secured over the receiving recess along with the jamb flange. The device may be installed on a new door at the work site, on a pre-hung door/frame assembly in a factory, and on an existing door as a retrofit installation.
