ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of preventing the switching of videotapes in a cassette in a simple and inexpensive manner is provided. One side of the videotape cassette is removed to expose the two videotape reels mounted therein. Identifying indicia is then imprinted with ink on one side of at least one of the reels in the cassette. The indicia is distributed about the centre of the reel. The one side of the cassette is then reattached so that the cassette is restored to a playable condition. A side of the cassette has at least one window therein and the indicia is imprinted on the reel so that at least a portion thereof is exposed through this window. Preferably the indicia is imprinted with an ink that is only clearly visible to the eye under ultraviolet light.
