An optical spectroscopy system is provided, in which a pulse of a radiation to be analyzed is passed through a diffractive element presenting high temporal chromatic dispersion so as to provide temporal dispersion of different wavelengths comprised by the radiation, and the temporal dispersion is measured either directly or by converting the temporal dispersion into a spatial dispersion, so as to provide data by correlation of the measured dispersion and the characteristics of the diffractive element, which is preferably an elongated optical fibre trunk.
