ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A tiltable wire matrix printer, which is especially suitable for printing complicated characters, such as Chinese characters, made up of a series of laterally spaced columns, in which the head is designed to tilt between a first printing position in which a column of printed points vertically spaced from each other by a distance which is less than the diameter of the point, and a second printing position in which a second column of printed points which are interspersed between the first set of points is produced, thus producing a substantially continuous solid line pattern. The print head is preferably designed to move from left to right printing the columns in the first printing position and then to be tilted and returned from right to left producing the columns in the second printing position as it does so.
