The present invention provides a functional fluid suitable for use in an internal combustion engine, comprising: (a) a major amount of a base fluid; (b) a mi-nor amount of a polysubstituted alkanol amine derivative reaction product obtainable by reacting: (i) a carboxylate compound of formula (I) R1COOR2 in which: Rl is an aliphatic C1-30-hydrocarbon radical; and RZ is hydrogen or alkyl, mono-orpolyhydrox--yalkyl, or ammonium; with (ii) an alkanol amine of the formula (II) NHIR3R4, wherein R3 and R4 are independently selected from hydrogen atoms and linear or branched--chain hydrocarbon groups, the carbon chain of which is optionally interrupted by one or more -NH- groups and which optionally has at least one hydroxyl group attached to a carbon atom of the hydrocarbon group, with the proviso that R3 and R4 are not both hydrogen atoms and that at least one of said residues R3 and R4 carries at least one hydroxyl group; in a molar ratio of the -COO--groups of the carboxylate compound of formula (I) to the molar sum of OH and NH groups of the alkanol amine of formula (II) in a range and under reaction conditions supporting the formation of a reaction product comprising polysubstituted alkanol amine derivatives; and (c) a minor amount of a detergent additive.
La présente invention concerne un fluide fonctionnel convenant pour être utilisé dans un moteur à combustion interne, contenant : (a) une quantité majoritaire d'un fluide de base; (b) une quantité mineure d'un produit réactionnel dérivé d'alcanolamine polysubstitué qui peut être obtenu par la réaction : (i) d'un composé carboxylate de formule (I) R1COOR2, R1 étant un radical hydrocarboné en C1 à C30 aliphatique; et R2 étant un atome d'hydrogène ou un groupe alkyle, mono- ou polyhydroxyalkyle ou ammonium; avec (ii) une alcanolamine répondant à la formule (II) NHR3R4, R3 et R4 étant indépendamment choisis parmi des atomes d'hydrogène et des groupes hydrocarbonés à chaîne linéaire ou ramifiée, dont la chaîne carbonée est facultativement interrompue par un ou plusieurs groupes -NH- et qui comporte facultativement au moins un groupe hydroxyle attaché à un atome de carbone du groupe hydrocarboné, à condition que R3 et R4 ne soient pas tous deux des atomes d'hydrogène et qu'au moins l'un desdits résidus R3 et R4 porte au moins un groupe hydroxyle; dans un rapport molaire des groupes -COO- du composé carboxylate de formule (I) à la somme molaire des groupes OH et NH de l'alcanolamine de formule (II), dans une certaine plage et dans des conditions de réaction supportant la formation d'un produit réactionnel contenant des dérivés d'alcanolamine polysubstitués; et (c) une quantité mineure d'un additif détergent.
