A method is provided for reclaiming used alkaline or acid cleaning solution and for producing fresh such cleaning solution therefrom. The method includes the step of continuously, or intermittently in sequential bursts, removing a stream of such used cleaning solution from a holding zone containing used such solution and cycling used such cleaning solution to a treating zone. The next step involves adding a treating agent (e.g., a chelating agent) to the used cleaning solution, e.g., in the treating zone. Such treated cleaning solution is continuously, or intermittently in sequential bursts, removed from the treating zone. A stream of such treated solution recycled back to the holding zone. A minor stream of such treated solution is also bled-off. Substantially-simultaneously, fresh such cleaning solution, in an amount which is coordinated with the minor amount of used such cleaning solution which has been bled-off, is added to the stream of used such cleaning solution. The total amount to be added is determined by comparison between a selected parameter (e.g., turbidity) of the used such cleaning solution stream and the same parameter of a fresh stream of such cleaning solution.
