A device for detecting low magnitude electrical currents comprises a generally toroidally-shaped member (10) of a magnetic material provided with an air gap (14) and a magneto-resistive device in the form of a bridge (16) disposed in the air gap (14) for sensing a current flowing in a conductor (12) passing through the member (10). In order to avoid damage due to overcurrents, the member (10) has a portion of reduced cross-sectional area (A) whereby to cause saturation of the member (10). The preferred use of the detecting device is in a residual current device.

Cette invention concerne un système destiné à détecter des courants de faible intensité. Ce système se compose d'un élément principal de forme quasi torique (10), fabriqué dans un matériau magnétique, ainsi que d'un entrefer (14). Un dispositif magnétorésistant ayant la forme d'un pont (16) est disposé dans l'entrefer (14) pour capter le courant circulant dans un conducteur (12), lequel passe à travers l'élément principal (10). Afin d'éviter les dégâts que pourrait provoquer une surintensité, une partie de la surface de l'élément principal (10), au niveau de la section transversale, (A) a été réduite de manière à provoquer la saturation de celui-ci. Ce système de détection pourra notamment être utilisé dans des dispositifs à courant résiduel.
