An apparatus for recovering floating tube cleaning elements from a flowing body of water is disclosed. Floating tube cleaning elements are collected by a combination of skimming booms and screens which harness the force of the flowing body of water to direct the floating tube cleaning elements over the weir into a sump connected to a suction pump which recirculates the floating tube cleaning elements. The sump includes a variable opening water inlet to allow water into the sump in order to maintain a balance between water flowing into the sump and water flowing out of the sump.
