The present invention relates to methods for treating cancer by administering to a mammalian subject a therapeutically effective amount of a selective .beta.5 integrin antagonist. The present invention also relates to methods of treating a human epidermal growth factor receptor 2(HER-2) positive tumor by administering to a mammalian subject a therapeutically effective amount of a .beta.5 integrin antagonist and a HER-2 antagonist and further relates to compositions of the aforementioned antagonists. The .beta.5 integrin antagonist can directly inhibit tumor growth by directly inhibiting the activity or the expression of .beta.5 integrin in a .beta.5 integrin-expressing tumor cell.
La présente invention porte sur des procédés consistant à traiter le cancer par l'administration à un sujet mammifère d'une quantité thérapeutiquement efficace d'un antagoniste sélectif de l'intégrine ß5. La présente invention porte également sur des procédés consistant à traiter une tumeur positive au récepteur 2 du facteur de croissance épidermique humain (HER-2) par l'administration à un sujet mammifère d'une quantité thérapeutiquement efficace d'un antagoniste de l'intégrine ß5 et d'un antagoniste HER-2 et porte en outre sur des compositions des antagonistes mentionnés ci-dessus. L'antagoniste de l'intégrine ß5 peut directement inhiber la croissance tumorale en inhibant directement l'activité ou l'expression de l'intégrine ß5 dans une cellule tumorale exprimant l'intégrine ß5.
