In the case of connections in which information is transmitted using an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM), the ATM cells carrying the information have to be fed to the subsequent units in an optimal manner. With non-real-time connections the transmission capacity available in connecting sections is distributed to virtual paths. According to the invention, transmission capacity which is or becomes free within a path is allocated across path boundaries to the ATM cells of virtual connections of other virtual paths or its own virtual path.

Dans des liaisons permettant de transférer des informations selon un mode de transfert asynchrone (MTA), les cellules MTA contenant les informations doivent être acheminées de façon optimisée aux unités suivantes. Dans le cas de liaisons différées, la capacité de transmission disponible sur des parties de liaison est répartie sur des chemins virtuels. Selon l'invention, il est prévu d'affecter la capacité de transmission libre ou devenue libre dans un chemin, au-delà des limites du chemin, à des cellules MTA de liaisons virtuelles dudit chemin virtuel ou d'autres chemins virtuels.
