The invention relates to an agent for coloring keratin fibers which is free of chemical oxidants and is in the form of an aqueous or aqueous-alcoholic preparation and comprises a combination of oxidative dyes and direct dyes, said combination containing at least three direct dyes, and that the quantitative ratio between the oxidative dyes and the direct dyes is equal to 5:1 to 0.5:1.
