A method of manufacturing porous ceramic tubes for fuel cells with improved properties and higher manufacturing yield is disclosed. The method involves extruding a closed end fuel cell tube (50), such as an air electrode of a solid oxide fuel cell, in which the closed end (52) also functions as the sintering support. The resultant fuel cell tube has a superior porosity distribution which allows improved diffusion of oxygen at the closed end (52) of the tube during operation of the fuel cell. Because this region has the highest current density, performance enhancement and improved reliability of the fuel cell tube result. Furthermore, the higher manufacturing yield associated with the present method decreases the overall fuel cell cost.

Procédé de fabrication de tubes poreux en céramique pour piles à combustible, ayant des propriétés améliorées et présentant un rendement de fabrication plus élevé. Ledit procédé consiste à extruder un tube pour pile à combustible à extrémité fermée (50), tel qu'une électrode oxydoréductrice d'une pile à combustible oxyde solide, dans laquelle l'extrémité fermée (52) fonctionne également comme support de frittage. Le tube pour pile à combustible qui en résulte possède une meilleure répartition de la porosité, ce qui permet une meilleure diffusion de l'oxygène au niveau de l'extrémité fermée du tube (52) lors du fonctionnement de la pile à combustible. Cette zone présentant la densité de courant la plus élevée, il en résulte une amélioration de la performance et une meilleure fiabilité du tube pour pile à combustible. En outre, le rendement de fabrication plus élevé associé au procédé selon la présente invention entraîne une baisse du coût total de la pile à combustible.
