The invention relates to a method for thermally processing a Ti 5-5-5-3 titanium alloy having the following composition in wt %: - between 4.4 and 5.7% of aluminium, - between 4.0 and 5.5% of vanadium, - between 0.30 and 0.50% of iron, - between 4.0 and 5.5% of molybdenum, - between 2.5 and 3.5% of chromium, - between 0.08 and 0.18% of oxygen, - up to 0.10% of carbon traces, - up to 0.05% of nitrogen traces, - up to 0.30% of zirconium traces, - up to 0.15% of silicon traces, the remaining percentage consisting of titanium and impurities; characterised in that the thermal processing of said alloy comprises: heating the alloy up to a first level of 800 to 840°C below the ß-transus thereof; maintaining the first temperature level for a duration of 1 to 3 hours; cooling the alloy down to a second level of 760 to 800°C without intermediate reheating; maintaining the second temperature level for a duration of 2 to 5 hours; cooling the alloy down to ambient temperature; heating the alloy up to a third level of 540 and 650°C, maintaining the third temperature level for a duration of 4 to 20 hours; and cooling down the alloy to ambient temperature. The invention also relates to the part resulting from said method.

Procédé de traitement thermique d'un alliage de titane de type Ti 5-5-5-3 ayant, en pourcentages pondéraux, la composition suivante: entre 4,4 et 5,7 % d'aluminium; entre 4,0 et 5,5 % de vanadium; entre 0,30 et 0,50 % de fer; entre 4,0 et 5,5 % de molybdène; entre 2,5 et 3,5 % de chrome; entre 0,08 et 0,18 % d'oxygène; traces à 0,10 % de carbone; traces à 0,05 % d'azote; traces à 0,30 % de zirconium; traces à 0,15 % de silicium, le pourcentage résiduel étant du titane et des impuretés, caractérisé en ce qu'on effectue le traitement thermique dudit alliage selon: chauffage à un premier palier entre 810 et 840 °C et en dessous du .beta.-transus de l'alliage; maintien au premier palier pendant 1 à 3 heures; refroidissement jusqu'à un deuxième palier entre 760 °C et 800 °C sans réchauffement intermédiaire; maintien au deuxième palier pendant 2 à 5 heures; refroidissement jusqu'à l'ambiante; chauffage à un troisième palier entre 540 °C et 650 °C; maintien au troisième palier pendant 4 à 20 heures, puis refroidissement jusqu'à l'ambiante. Pièce obtenue par ce procédé.
