ABSTRACT THE USE OF RETINOIDS TO MINIMIZE SKIN DAMAGE Pretreating areas of the body susceptible to the formation of pressure sores or ischemic ulcers with retinoids reduces the likelihood of such sores or ulcers occurring. Similarly, skin stripping caused by the removal of adhesives can be reduced by pretreating with retinoids. The retinoids can be formulated into a cream, ointment, lotion or hydrogel formulation or can be incorporated into the adhesive layer of a bandage or dressing or located at the skin contacting adhesive surface and adjacent strata of a bandage or dressing.
