The present invention provides a flexible hose easily converted to a rigid hose. The flexible-rigid bimodal hose comprises a plurality of adjacently engaged hollow members defining a tube having a first end, a second end, and an elongated hollow. A flexible tube as well as a cable pass through the hollow and extend therethrough. The cable acts as a means to apply tension on the hollow members. The hose has a flexible state in which each one of the hollow members is rotating in respect to neighboring hollow member and a rigid state in which the hollow members are forced together by the cable so that there is no relative movement between neighboring hollow members. An actuation means, which can be mechanically or hydraulically operated, is adapted to apply different tensile forces on the cable.
La présente invention concerne un tuyau flexible que l'on transforme facilement en tuyau rigide. Le tuyau bimodal flexible-rigide comporte une pluralité d'éléments creux imbriqués de manière adjacente délimitant un tube présentant une première extrémité, une seconde extrémité et un creux allongé. Le tube flexible et un câble traversent le creux pour s'y étendre. Le câble tient lieu d'élément permettant d'appliquer une tension sur les éléments creux. Le tuyau présente un état flexible, dans lequel chaque élément creux tourne par rapport à l'élément creux avoisinant et un état rigide, dans lequel les éléments creux sont plaqués ensemble par le câble de manière à empêcher tout mouvement relatif entre les éléments creux avoisinants. On prévoit des moyens d'actionnement, fonctionnant de manière mécanique ou hydraulique, permettant d'appliquer différentes forces de traction sur le câble.
