A fastening apparatus for an outside mirror of a motor vehicle including a base plate mountable to the vehicle and a mirror housing connectable to the base plate without fasteners until fasteners can be installed. The mirror housing is preferably connectable to the base plate by a shape fit which is simple to manufacture. The advantage is a rearview mirror that is rapidly mounted by one person working alone.
