A method and apparatus for regulating discharge of an ore feed from a discharge end of a conveyor is disclosed. The apparatus includes a boom supported above the conveyor for movement about a pivot in a direction generally aligned with a length of the conveyor, the boom being suspended from the pivot and terminating in a first end disposed above a first portion of a lateral width of the conveyor proximate the discharge end. The first end is operable to bear on ore traveling along the first portion of the conveyor for a period of time to temporarily impede discharge of ore from the first portion while permitting discharge of ore from a remaining portion of the lateral width of the conveyor to cause a generally even discharge of material from the discharge end of the conveyor.
